New Possibilities For the Growth of Reston Day School! Dear RDS Parents and Staff;
As
you all know, we have run out of space at RDS Main Campus (the old
Franklin Barn)for our school to grow.
Next year we will go
through 3rd grade at Main Campus.
For some time now, I have been
looking for a way to expand Reston Day School, and at long last, I
believe I have found an excellent way to do just that.
Over the
past two years I have talked with several Virginia private
schools of known high quality which are college prep, non-sectarian and
which share our emphasis on superior quality teachers, quality context, character development,
academic excellence, small classes and lots of individual attention for
every student with the intention of "partnering" our schools so RDS
students may move seamlessly from 3rd grade at RDS to 4th-12th at our
"partner" school and on to college.....
While there is more than
one potential partner, I have chosen the school where I want to send my
boys (my gold standard for RDS...don't forget how RDS was
created....!!)
I am currently meeting with a team from this
school, including the headmaster, of course, and should finalize our
plan by Friday, June18th, 2010.
So many of our RDS parents
have communicated with Meg or me about expanding RDS that I wanted to
give everyone an update now, only after I have some certainty that this
will work.
A minor but
important part of the RDS school plan for us has always been to make
transportation as easy for our busy parents as possible. Currently we
pick up RDS students at each of our centers in the morning
and drive them to Main Campus, then back to their home center for
parent pick up in the evening. With our new partner
school, this transportation
plan will remain in effect: pick up at the centers and bring
back to their center after school for parent pick up at the center.
In
addition, all of our centers, starting in September, will open at 6am
instead of 6.30am, and close at 7pm instead of 6:30pm...not just for
RDS students, but for all of our families.
Next letter to
parents: Monday, June 21, 2010, following my meeting with our
prospective partner school, Friday, June 18th.
Love,
Philip
