Infants In our interactive classrooms the babies are provided with a safe, bright, loving and respectful environment so they can have the opportunity to learn about themselves, interact with others and establish a relationship with their surroundings. All the infants are considered active learners since they are and will continue to construct their understanding of the world from their active involvement with people, materials and ideas. Reading, Writing and Language: In active learning settings, the infants listen and respond to organized sounds of language, initiate social interaction with others and look at books and participate in stories, rhymes and songs. They also learn to communicate by gesturing, sound making, speaking, watching and listening in a give-and -take process. Math and Science: Through extensive sensory-motor explorations, the babies interact with objects learning how the object feels, smells, what it is used for and that the object exists even when they can't see it. They also learn to group similar things together, to point to "one" body part or object, to use the "more" concept, to explore space using a bucket or explore time by repeating actions to make something happen again or predicting the next event: all of which are mathematical concepts and the beginnings of scientific inquiry. Sense of Self and Others: Interacting with objects and trusted caregivers, the babies gradually begin to understand that they themselves exist as separate persons and they are encouraged to go from "I can do it" to "I can do it myself". Through gentle interactions they learn to trust themselves and others, to express emotions and respond to feelings of others, to be curious and to explore new learning challenges and adventures. Other Exciting Aspects of our Program: As active learners, the infants have the space and freedom to move without constraint. They learn their own physical strengths and limits and practice movements all day long, in a safe environment. Each classroom has a Spanish teacher who exposes the babies to Spanish on a daily basis in order to form necessary brain connections for further language learning. Toddlers In our interactive classrooms children have the opportunity to learn about themselves, interact with others and feel competent and proud about what they can do. Children engage in a "please touch" program that allows the child to explore a variety of learning opportunities designed to support cognitive and physical development. Our teachers are trained to provide a nurturing and safe environment where learning occurs naturally and lovingly. Reading, Writing and Language: Through rhymes, finger plays, songs and books, the toddlers are immersed in a wonderful world of words, reading and language. There are also plenty of opportunities for writing practice and fine motor games to strengthen muscles and coordination necessary for handwriting. Whole language practices, language play and simple phonetic exposure help to ensure that our toddlers will be eager readers. Math and Science: Using a wide variety of manipulative toys, building materials and sensory supplies, the toddlers begin to understand simple math and science concepts. Using hands-on math and science becomes easy as we bake cakes, play in the sand table, put together puzzles and build towers. The children also use the simple stages of the scientific method in sensory experiments and conversational math throughout the week. Social Skills: A great deal of emphasis is focused on developing trusting relationships with adults and peers, communicating and expressing emotions in useful ways. We use dramatic play, role modeling and teacher directed play to reinforce social skills in a non-forceful setting. Toddlers are naturally social beings who need reassurance, love, and guidance to form meaningful relationships and friendships. Other Exciting Aspects of our Program: We have plenty of outdoor play and simple field trips for our younger children. In Fitness Club we participate in both indoor and outdoor activities that strengthen large and small muscles, increases body awareness and hygiene skills such as hand washing and table manners. We also explore Music and Movement. Each class participates in the Spanish Language Program.
