Spanish

Why We Teach Spanish!

America is now Bi-Lingual.

Purpose #1

It is our goal to have a full-time Spanish speaking staff member in each of our Preschool and Full Day classrooms. It is the job of the teacher to speak fluent Spanish to the children every day so children may hear it and absorb it.!

The purpose of having a Spanish speaking staff member in each room is to develop and nurture young children's natural capacity to acquire language by hearing it in their every day environment. In this way, by creating the possibility of a second language, children naturally acquire the language in the same way that they acquire their native language, by hearing it all the time!

In addition to learning another language, the children do projects involving Spanish language, and learn about other cultures that have Spanish as their native language. In this way young children may begin to appreciate the diversity of other cultures on our planet!

Purpose #2

Perhaps the most important benefit of early exposure to another language is neuron development in our young children's brains. Recent brain research has clearly shown that much of the brain operates on a "use it or lose it" basis. While the brain is growing in a young child, the capacity for learning is immense but starts to slow down after the age of five or so. If certain innate capacities are not used and the brain neurons are not stimulated, they are lost.
