Two's Program Within and environment of love and respect, children in our two year old classrooms are playfully introduced to key cognitive skill areas. These skills are enhanced through pretend play, imagination games, role modeling and tons of hands-on manipulation. At this age there is also ample learning opportunities created to support developing self help skills such as pottying, hygiene and nutrition. Our teachers spend a large portion of their day engaged in interactive play and loving communication with our terrific twos! Reading, Writing and Language: Our two year olds are introduced to a wide variety of children's literature including fingerplays, rhymes and predictable stories. They love stories about furry animals! We use many whole language practices as well as simple phonetic instruction to develop pre-reading skills and to role model the enjoyment of reading and writing. We play many games that enhance letter-sound correspondence, build vocabularies, and increase eye hand coordination and fine motor skills. We also sing a lot in our two's classrooms, repeating rhymes and making merry! Math and Science: Our "Math and Me" program promotes simple math concepts while utilizing a two year olds favorite thing...themselves! ("I have two ears, one nose, ten fingers...") We also talk about math throughout the day, noticing full and empty, half and whole, weights, fractions and shapes. In our "Sensory Science" program children use their developing senses to explore the world around them and to participate in hands on experiments about relevant topics...particularly food, where cooking allows us to both experiment with our senses and use math skills. Other Exciting Aspects of our Program: Our Skills and Drills Program is designed to support the child's physical development through planned themes and activities. In the Parent University Fitness Club we participate in both indoor and outdoor activities that strengthen large and small muscles. We also improve body awareness, function and hygiene skills such as hand washing, table manners and dental care. We also explore music and movement. Each class participates in the Spanish language and culture.
